About the university
The Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) is an educational institution recognized for its elite, demanding and complete training as well as for its complicity with the professional circles and its commitment to the musical life. Multidisciplinary and multi-style, it covers all training profiles in classical music, jazz and contemporary music. Located in the heart of Europe and the French-speaking Switzerland where it hosts more than 500 students from 39 different nationalities, HEMU offers a university level education. Valuing both theory and practice, its Bachelor and Master courses are established in such a way as to ensure immediate access to the professional world. Its faculty, composed of many artists of international renown, guarantees its students a high level of supervision. Historically present at the Conservatoire de Lausanne (before the Bologna reform), classical music has been taught at the HEMU for more than 150 years. At its side, the jazz and contemporary music departments, exclusively offered in French-speaking Switzerland, were created in 2006 and 2016. Whether in the fields of interpretation, music or composition, Trainings carefully combine tradition, creation, research and development, always with the aim of achieving excellence.
