Urban Environments and Local Governments Graduate Program evaluates the causes and environmental consequences of urbanization on global and local scales. It addresses urban history and culture, urban sociology, urban architecture/urban design and the role of local governments in these topics. Our graduate Program aims to train academicians and public officials who would focus on the social, political, economic and environmental consequences of urbanization, who question the roles, duties and responsibilities of local governments in this issue, and who develop an awareness for environmental and ecological problems. Our Program performs interdisciplinary studies with its expert academic staff and offers a flexible program for students from various disciplines such as political science, public administration, international relations, urban and regional planning, architecture, environmental engineering and geological engineering. In addition to basic courses such as Introduction to Urban and Environmental Law, Turkish Local Administration System, the program includes 20th Century Urban Theories course addressing the theoretical dimensions of urbanization. Ecological Crisis and Climate Politics and Green Political Thought courses focusing on environmental issues, which are the subjects of current debates at the global scale. Seminars are held each semester by the leading specialists in their field. With the seminars given by these leading names working in the civil society, academia, and local governments, our students master both theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In this way, our students reinforce their theoretical approaches with an opportunity to follow the current debates and developments in the field.
