Location
MCAD’s drawing and painting major encourages you to take an individual direction in your work. This program supports you through rigorous technical experiences, including observationally based work in introductory courses and greater freedom in advanced classes. Through awareness of contemporary practice and historical precedents, you will develop a high degree of skill in drawing and painting. You will gain an understanding of the context of your work through courses with specific content, including representation, abstraction, process-based work, and courses that challenge the boundaries between drawing and painting and other artistic practices. By engaging in varied professional practices, you will gain an understanding of how to sustain a career in the field after leaving MCAD. From your first compositions and critiques to real-world work experiences, the BFA curriculum is a systematic process that transforms you from an MCAD student into a creative professional.
