The economist allocates scarce resources seeking to meet the needs of society, provides tools to understand and solve social and economic problems of the national and international environment. The graduate of the Economics Program of Universidad Autónoma de Occidente will be competent to: - Perform in their profession in accordance with the fundamental principles of ethics and responsible citizenship. - Understand human and social behaviors with a global vision of the individual and - the society in which he lives. - Communicate properly in oral and written form in Spanish and English and make proper use of systems and computing. - Carry out teamwork and leadership in the exercise of the profession of economist. - Propose innovations and ventures in the exercise of the profession of economist. - Apply the theory and quantitative methods to the analysis of problems related to the economy. - Understand and apply microeconomic theory to the analysis of problems related to consumers, producers, the market and well-being. - Understand and apply macroeconomic theory to the analysis of problems related to economic efficiency, distributive equity, economic growth and economic stabilization. - Design macroeconomic monetary, fiscal, development and international trade policies. - Analyze economic problems in the light of universal, national and regional economic history. - Evaluate financially, economically and socially public and private sector investment projects. - Make use of econometric methods to validate theories, forecast and evaluate economic policies. - Apply the theory and methods of economic analysis in the Colombian legal context. - Do applied research to solve problems of the local, regional, national and international economy. - Interact and develop teamwork with professionals from other disciplines.
