University of Abomey-Calavi

The history of higher education in the Republic of Benin in general and the establishment of the Abomey University, in particular, represents a lengthy process marked by major events. Among these facts, we can keep those represented in the following table: April 24, 1961: Agreement on cooperation in the field of higher education between the Republic of Dahomey and the French Republic November 27, 1962: The creation of a literary propédeutique in Porto Novo July 14, 1965: The creation of the Institute of Higher Education in Benin (IESB) with the transfer of literary criticism in Lomé and start research in PORTO NOVO May 1968: Creation of the National Commission for the Development of the University of Dahomey Nov1968: UNESCO's first mission to study the creation and the University of Dahomey November 1969: French mission for the organization and development of university education in Dahomey December 1969: The first Canadian mission in the creation of the university July 8 and 9, 1970: The last tripartite commission The joint Franco-Daho-Togo in Paris leads to the separation of the two national IESB universities, in Dahomey and that of Togo.
