On December 4, 1994, two foundations, Wakaf Paramadina Foundation and Pondok Mulya Foundation, each engaged in education and oriented towards Islamic values, agreed to cooperate and plan to establish a university. The agreement was realized with the establishment of Paramadina-Mulya Foundation which was confirmed in the presence of Harun Kamil Notary, No. 188 dated February 27, 1995. Since then the idea to establish a university began to be developed. A series of discussions followed by the foundation's board, the Isnet Foundation group, the BATAN group, the LIPI group, and individuals devoting the hopes and ideas about the university to be founded suggest the following points of thought: Universities to be established should contribute to the refinement or upgrading of existing college models. The university should only open up an emerging sciences course to the future of science, "Engineering Science." Universities should prioritize research as an effort to balance and improve the quality of science and technology development. The University should produce graduates who have the expertise required by the Indonesian nation, which is oriented to research, entrepreneurial spirit in the development of industrial engineering and services that animates Islamic ethics. Therefore the university campus needs to provide facilities that encourage the ongoing activities of all aspects of life so that the academic community can express themselves in the most qualified form.
