Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria

On December 6, 1967, with the request of the Commissar of the prefect of the Consortium for the Institute of Architecture of Reggio Calabria, the founding nucleus of the University of Reggio Calabria was born. Legal recognition is provided by the Presidential Decree (No. 1543) of June 17, 1968 marking the birth of the Free University Institute of Architecture. Salvatore Boscarino, a professor at the University of Catania, holds the first lesson, on December 18, 1967, on "Elements of Architecture and Relief of Monuments". In the first academic year, 81 students are registered. The inaugural lessons take place in the Council of the Province of Reggio Calabria. Afterwards, the Institute is at the expense of the city, at the provisional seat of Palazzo Delfino, then in the Municipal Library, and finally in October 1969 at the premises of the Archbishop's Palace. With the decree of the President of the Republic of 14 February 1970 (No 750), the Free University Institute of Architecture, became the IUSA Institute of State University of Architecture. Pending the establishment of the Academic Senate, the administration is temporarily assigned to a Commissioner, Franco Pontorieri, while the powers of the Faculty Council are exercised by a committee composed of three professors appointed by the Ministry of Public Education: Ludovico Quaroni, University of Rome, Ugo Fuxa, professor at the University of Palermo, Gianvito Resta, professor at the University of Messina.
