About the university
According to the decision of Revolutionary Committee of Azerbaijan the first high school – Baku State University was established on September 1919 and later on, the second high school – Baku Polytechnical University was established on 16 th November of 1920 and on December 18, 5 faculties including faculty of agriculture was established at the institute. Thus, the preparation of high agricultural specialists began. Agronomist N.A. Lebedev was appointed as the first dean of the agricultural faculty. At that time exiled with the group of russian and foreign scientists the founder of the soil science V.V.Dokuchayev’s student, professor Vladimir Pavlovich Smirnov-Loginov was the dean of agriculutural faculty during 1921-1929. On 15 may 1929 according to the decision of Azerbaijan National Comissar Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute was establsihed in Baku. The Institute was moved from Baku ot Ganja in 1931. On May 1932, 10 - year anniversary of this education and science temple was held in a narrow range and “Anniversary collection of AAI” was published in the amount of 50 printed pages with 1000 copies (500 in Turkish and 500 in Russian languages) in “ Qizil Sherg” (Golden east) printing house. Since then, the establishment date of the institute was estimated December 16, 1920, not 1929.
