About the university
The history of the Gomel State Medical University dates back to 1990, when the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR of 14.11.1990 No. 284 and the order of the Minister of Health of the BSSR dated 20.11.1990 No. 188, to provide training for doctors and specialists of the highest qualification for the most affected by the disaster ChNPP of Gomel and Mogilev regions, in November 1990 the Gomel State Medical Institute was opened. The creation of the university was due to the acute need for medical personnel in the Gomel and Mogilev regions affected by the Chernobyl accident, as well as the need to conduct scientific research into the medical consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and to find ways to overcome them.

The admission criteria: - final school examination scores over 50% in core subjects (Biology, Chemistry, and English) - entry exams (the eligibility criteria - Biology, Chemistry, and English exam scores over 50%), - age under 25, - gap after discontinuation of secondary school education (Advanced level) /Nursing/Medical/Technical undergraduate training not more than 5 years.
Student visa
Foreign citizens obtain visas at the embassies and consulates of Belarus. If there is no diplomatic mission of Belarus in the country, a student visa can be obtained at the General Consular Department of National Airport Minsk. To obtain an upon arrival student visa, an applicant must provide: a valid passport, secondary education docs, completed visa application, 1 photo 35x45 mm; cash money required to cover the visa charges and the tuition and accommodation fees (at least 3000 US dollars).
Accommodation
All international students are accommodated in the dormitories of the University. Both female and male students are accommodated in the same dormitories but do not share rooms or blocks of rooms (2-4 persons). The hostel fee starts from USD 40 per month.
Scholarships
Gomel State Medical University does not offer student grants or study grants. The tuition fees in the 2021/2022 academic year will start from USD 4,000.
