Forestry Forestry is broadly defined as the science and practice of developing, managing or cultivating trees and forests for human benefit. Forestry is a growing industry of the Belarusian economy. For this reason, forestry graduates are currently in high demand in the labour market. The professional training covers many forestry-related areas including forest formation and growing, environmental protection and forest ecosystem monitoring (control), forest certification, hunting farm activities, management of forest resources, forest inventory, GIS technologies, etc. Term of study: 4 years Career: Forestry Engineer Minors: Forest Science and Silviculture Professional training: forest formation and growing, procedures of final harvest and intermediate cuttings, environmental protection and forest ecosystem monitoring (control), forest certification, radioecology, forestry in the conditions of forest ecosystem extreme disturbances. Students are taught to define principal species of grass, wood and undergrowth flora of republican and world forests and to learn their biological and ecological peculiarities. They are trained to carry out a geobotanic description of forest phytocenoses and a phonologic observation of plant growth and development, to establish regularities of forest relationship with ecological factors and regularities of forest plantation formation. They also obtain deep theoretical and practical training in carrying out procedures of final harvest and intermediate cuttings, and other forestry activities. Employment assistance – in forestry enterprises, national parks and reserves, etc. Forest Protection Professional training: forest plantation control (forest-pathologic monitoring); arrangement of measures on forest protection from pests and diseases; development of projects and normative reference documentation on forest protection. Students acquire theoretical and practical skills of assessing forest plantation viability, methods of defining forest harmful species and organisms; they study modern techniques and means of forest protection and technologies of their application, as well as methods of field and laboratory investigations of harmful organisms.
