The time frames of academic year are strictly regulated. It is divided into two semesters: Autumn semester: September – January Spring semester: February – July The training process in each semester is carried out according to the certified program and includes the precisely established number of disciplines. The transfer to the next course is possible only in condition of passing all exams and credits, stipulated by the academic plan. Any shifts and transfers of disciplines to other semesters are not allowed. Foreign citizens are offered two forms of training: Russian Medium and English + Russian Medium (General Medicine only). A foreign student will be admitted to the basic course of training after completing Preparatory Training Course in which he studies Russian and other basic subjects (biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics). Preliminary testing in biology, chemistry and English is foreseen and the required result should be no less than 50 % in each subject. From the first to the third year the students study preclinical subjects: 1st year – Anatomy, Chemistry, Bio-organic chemistry, Physics, Biology, Histology, Cytology and Embryology 2nd year – Biological chemistry, Normal physiology, general care therapeutic/surgical patients, Micro-biology 3rd year – Pathological physiology/Anatomy, Propedeutics of internal diseases/General surgery, Pharmacology, Topographical anatomy. The lectures are held in English. Up to the second year Russian language is taught as a language so the students will have an adequate knowledge to communicate with the patients, hospital staff and doctors who are not affiliated to VSMU. 4th year – 6th year – general surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Oncology, Otolaryngology, Anesthesiology and Rehabilitation, Clinical medicine, Endocrinology, Ultra-sound scanning, Dermatology and Dermatovenerology, Cardiology, Infectious diseases, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Forensic medicine, Gynecology and Obstetrics and General Hygiene. Theory and lectures are taught in English. Practicals are in Russian language as for communicate with patients, hospital staff and doctors who are not affiliated to VSMU.
