About the university
The Catholic University of Social Sciences Berlin (KHSB) was founded in 1991 as the first Catholic university of applied sciences in the new federal states. It is a state-approved university for applied sciences in the sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Berlin . The ecclesiastical commitment in the social field of education is based on the Church's mission to participate in the shaping of social life and to contribute to the solution of social problems. The KHSB as a university for applied sciences is, in many respects, networked with practice and a partner for a wide range of different cooperation projects between science and practice in social work fields. The activities of this transfer to science and practice and the commitment to civil society within the framework of the so-called Third Mission of Universities (teaching = first mission, research = second mission) are, for KHSB and their employees, a self-evident part of their task understanding and the central concern of their work. This understanding is held in the transfer strategy of the KHSB.
