About the university
The College of Church Music with locations in Herford and Witten is an institution of the Protestant Church of Westphalia. It is the only Protestant church music academy in North-West Germany and one of the largest of the six Protestant music colleges in Germany, as well as the 25 German training centers for church music. Approximately 10 percent of the students of the Protestant Church Music Department are trained here and can complete bachelor's, master's and artistic examinations and concert examinations. With the beginning of the winter semester 2016/2017, the university also offers a bachelor's degree program with a focus on "Kirchenmusik Popular" ("Kirchenmusik Popular"), in addition to the established department "Kirchenmusik Klassisch" (Herford). This new course of study is located at the second university location in Witten and forms a central pillar of the Protestant Pop Academy, a new institution of the EKvW in co-operation with the foundation Creative Church. Within the framework of the jointly organized academy, the conception, directing and implementation of the studies at the university are carried out, while the foundation is responsible for the area of continuing education and further education.
