About the university
The State College of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart was founded in 1857, making it the oldest and with almost 800 students the largest music college in Baden-Württemberg. As part of the Stuttgart cultural mile, it is of great importance not only as a university, but also as a concert organizer and cultural center for Stuttgart and the region. In the music field, the study is broadly diversified; In addition to piano, organ and singing, all orchestral instruments as well as composition, conducting (orchestra and choir), guitar, harp and elementary music pedagogy are taught. Scientific and music-theoretical subjects supplement the music-practical study offer. All subjects can be studied in artistic or music pedagogical courses, as well as the courses for school music and church music. An addition to the study program on the orchestral academy of RSO Stuttgart is possible. For the subjects of musicology and music pedagogy, the university has the right to apply for a doctorate and a habilitation degree.
