About the university
The foundation of the National University of Trujillo goes back to the beginning of our Republican era. It was General Simon Bolivar, the Liberator of America, who issued the Decree of Foundation on May 10, 1824, at his headquarters in Huamachuco. He was greatly influenced by it, the then Secretary General of the Nation, the Tribune Jose Faustino Sánchez Carrión . The first Rector was Don Carlos Pedemonte and Talavera and its installation takes place on October 12, 1831 in a ceremony held in the interior chapel of the Seminary School of San Carlos and San Marcelo, taking the respective oath Dr. Pedro José Soto y Velarde, Vice-Chancellor Of the Rectorate in the absence of the titular, Doctor Tomás Dieguez of Florence, then Senator of the Republic. On November 23, 1831, the Supreme Government appointed as patrons of the University to Santo Tomás and Santa Rosa de Lima . It began its operations in the locality of the "El Salvador" College founded by the Bishop of Trujillo Don Marcelo Corne. The first Chairs established were: Dogmatic Theology and Mora, Canons and Laws; Anatomy and Medicine; Philosophy and Mathematics. In the early years, his academic activities were governed by the Constitution of the National University of San Marcos de Lima, having been released for the Cloister to adopt the most convenient regulations. The first academic degrees granted by the UNT were those of Bachelor , Master and Doctor in Laws and Sacred Canons. Adopts the system of Faculties from the year 1861.
