About the university
The University of San Martin de Porres, traces its origins to the Pro-Deo Institute, a house dedicated to the cultivation of philosophy and theology that will be founded by Dr. Vicente Sánchez Valer of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). Shortly after Pope John XXIII elevated the Blessed Fray Martin de Porres Velásquez of the Dominican Order of Peru to the altars, the University was founded under the invocation of the new saint; The 17 of May of 1962. The first Faculties were those of Education and Letters including the Institutes of Philosophy, Spanish, Literature, History, Geography and Journalism. The First Rector was the founder, the RP Vicente Sánchez Valer. It was a time remembered with nostalgia for the founders due to the innovative spirit and growth that led them to incorporate the careers of Accounting, Economics, Administration, Law, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology and the Institutes of Industrial Relations and Cooperativism.
