National University San Luis Gonzaga de Ica

After many vicissitudes, on December 20, 1955, the National University "San Luis Gonzaga" of Ica was created by Law No. 12495 , managed by the then senator of Ica, Don Félix Temistocles Rocha Rebatta, during the Government of General Manuel A. Odría ; Producing in the town of Ica one of its greatest satisfactions. After five years, the people felt aggrieved, since the university did not begin its functions, putting forward excuses of budgetary character, and even taking care, even the annulment of the law No. 2195, by the Chamber of Deputies. In the struggle to make the operation of the University a reality, the participation and effort of multiple groups, such as the Civic Front of Ica, the Union of Primary Teachers of Ica, the Association of Ex-Sanluisanos de la Nocturna, La Peña Víctor Pacheco Cabezudo and the Profuncionamiento Committee. In the same way, the GUE's "San Luis Gonzaga" Parent Association, the Junior Chamber, the Rotary Club , the Ica Social Union, the Lions Club , etc. joined the fight . Thus, after multiple requests and setbacks, on January 10, 1961, the Iqueño Civic Front, chaired by Dr. Oscar Escate Campos, convened the historic Assembly of February 18, 1961, which agreed on the operation of the National University "San Luis Gonzaga "of Ica, appointed an Organizing Committee and opened the registration of postulants. The front was composed of Dr. Carlos Luján Castillo, Vice President; César Sánchez Caballero, Secretary; Ing. Saturnino Navarro, Treasurer; And Jorge Rojas Melgarejo, Coordinator, Emilio Torres Herrera, Delegate of Chincha; Félix Arias, Delegate of Pisco; And Mr. Luis Felipe Ricci, delegate of Nasca. Done that later made possible its officialisation by Ministerial Resolution No. 137 of February 18, 1961 . The National University "San Luis Gonzaga" of Ica has as its mission to create and develop scientific knowledge, generate technologies that are oriented to the sustainable development of the region and the country, within the framework of human values, providing the necessary means to enable the University community to respond adequately to the permanent change facing society in a changing world.
