Offered majors: Philosophical - Cultural Philosophical Studies (international) When is major chosen: After the second semester Offered foreign language classes: English, French, German, Russian Philosophy is a programme in which creative thinking skills are developed. It enables students to think critically, develop in-depth knowledge about reality, see themselves and the world from a broader perspective, analyse problems from many angles, avoid patterns and justify their beliefs. Philosophy programme develops the culture of logical thinking, teaches how to discuss, argue, analyse complex situations, creates new ideas and visions. It makes it possible to reflect on the fundamental issues of existence, truth, goodness, human, the principles of social life, and the methodological foundations of sciences. The studies show the changes in thinking over the centuries, the dependence of contemporary ways of viewing the world on the traditions of the European cultural heritage. Philosophy enables students to deepen their self-awareness, provides a good basis for acting in any areas that require creativity, teaches thinking outside the box and responding creatively to changes. The graduates of Philosophy demonstrate high intellectual culture supported by knowledge of a wide range of problems. The curriculum enables the students to acquire basic and thorough philosophical knowledge, while having the opportunity to deepen their understanding of detailed and specialised issues. The graduates of 2nd cycle studies in Philosophy are well acquainted with disciplines and trends in philosophy, their research methods and ways of argumentation. They are able to analyse and interpret texts and are familiar with the principles of publishing scientific texts. The acquisition of general education and the ability to think and acquire knowledge independently enables students to adapt flexibly to the changing job market and provides them with universal foundations for a responsible and mature approach to life. The exchange of views, which accompanies discussions in class and during social contacts, develops an attitude of tolerance and openness. The acquired knowledge and skills allow for a critical stance towards the modern world. The distance and openness towards everyday life issues give room for creativity in the face of its problems. Apart from the general philosophical education, the graduates of philosophy after the 2nd cycle studies have an additional advantage in the form of preparation in the area of two majors: Philosophical - Cultural or Philosophical Studies. The latter is implemented in cooperation with the University of Ostrava (Czech Republic) and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica (Slovakia), where the students have an opportunity to spend one semester of their studies. This gives them the opportunity to take up a position as an expert in various spheres of social life.
