When is the major chosen: During the first semester of studies Offered foreign language courses: to be chosen from the offer of the Foreign Language Centre of the University of Silesia (a language course chosen by the student lasts 4 semesters) Characteristics of the programme: Polish Philology studies provide knowledge about the Polish language, the history of native literature and contemporary literary life. They teach independent intellectual activity, deep understanding of literary texts and other statements. They prepare for active participation in literary culture and for a reflective perception of changes in contemporary language. Classes within the chosen major allow students to acquire skills and qualifications useful in professional career (see details below). Since the academic year 2000/2001, Polish Studies at the University of Silesia have been an accredited degree programme (PKA, UKA) and are included in the ECTS credit points system (the European Credit Transfer System), which facilitates, among others, students' mobility in the country and the European Higher Education Area.
