In 1816, by the decree of Alexander I, the Institute of Agriculture was established in Marimont, near Warsaw. The admission of students was begun in 1820. The Charter of the Institute was published in 1822 and provided for the purpose of the institution "to prepare practically educated farmers, capable of leading agricultural work and managing estates." Persons who had reached the age of 17 and who had already performed any positions in state or private estates, with four classes of the gymnasium, were accepted. The course of study was biennial, and for the most capable pupils it was reduced to one year. With the theoretical studies, field and other agricultural work were connected. In 1840, after the annexation of the Warsaw School of Forestry, the Institute was transformed into the Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, with two branches - agricultural and forestry. To the former goals, the training of educated forest rangers and the production of agricultural experiments and observations were added. According to the new statute, the number of students was taken by persons who had reached the age of 16 and had knowledge in the volume of the six classes of the gymnasium; The course of study was two years. In 1857 the institute was transformed into a closed educational institution for 150 people, from which it was required to know all the subjects of the gymnasium course, except for the ancient languages; The course of study became three-year; The forestry department was closed.
