National University Federico Villarreal

The National University Federico Villarreal (UNFV) was created like autonomous university the 30 of October of 1963, by means of law number 14692, promulgated by the constitutional government of the president Fernando Belaunde Terry. The UNFV proudly bears the name of the distinguished Peruvian sage Federico Villarreal, who during his life entered almost all fields of human knowledge, dedicating himself entirely to the study of science, research and teaching. The origin of the Villarreal University dates back to the time when it operated as a branch in Lima of the Communal University of the Center (UCC) of Peru, founded in December 1959 and which had subsidiaries according to the specialties it offered. As the academic activity of the Communal University was circumscribed to the city of Huancayo, in 1960 a group of banking employees from Lima held an assembly in which they agreed to become a committee of Lima professors. Dr. Javier Pulgar Vidal, a scientist and illustrious university professor, was the manager of the university; He was accompanied by Ramiro Prialé, Jesús Véliz Lizárraga, César Solís, Manuel Gutiérrez Aliaga and Luis Vega Fernández in writing and signing the founding deed. The branch of Lima began its activities in a rented house, located and the jirón Moquegua 262, Lima. The entrance examinations were set for the month of August of 1960 and the classes began the 16 of September of the same year. In 1961 the UCC was recognized as National University of the Center of Peru. When differences arose with the headquarters, the teachers and students of the Lima branch, in a session of university council of January 21, 1963, declared their autonomy and asked the government to recognize them as such. On October 18, 1963, the Congress of the Republic, presided over by Senator Julio de la Piedra, passed the law 14692 which recognizes as the National University Federico Villarreal the former branch of Lima, promulgated by the central government on October 30th year. On May 24, 1964, Dr. Óscar Herrera Marquis was elected as the first rector. The first faculties were: Commerce, Accounting and Actuarial Calculus, being its first dean Dr. Luis Arana Maradiegue; Economics, Statistics and Finance, his dean Dr. Carlos Manuel Cox; Public and Private Administration, his dean the engineer Luis Heysen Incháustegui; And Aquaculture and Oceanography, its Dean Dr. Erwin Schweigger. As of April 1, 1961, the faculties of Education functioned, with his dean Dr. Justo E. Debarbieri Riojas; And Architecture, his dean the architect Henry Biber Poillevard. The UNFVl has 18 faculties, 60 professional schools, a Pre-university Center, a Graduate School and a Distance Education, where professionals are trained with the demands of today's world.
