National University Pedro Ruiz Gallo

Until March 17, 1970, UNIVERSIDAD AGRARIA DEL NORTE, based in Lambayeque, and the UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE LAMBAYEQUE, based in Chiclayo, that day, through Decree Law No. 18179, merged both universities to give rise to a new one, which had the success of giving him the name of one of the most illustrious lambayecans: the brilliant inventor, precursor of world aviation and national hero, Lieutenant Colonel PEDRO RUIZ GALLO. Born this way, 42 years ago the National University Pedro Ruiz Gallo, had as first Rector to the Engineer Antonio Monsalve Morante. He succeeded him as Rectors, Ing. Hernán Chong Chappa (1977-1981), Ing. Manuel Cisneros Salas (1981-84), Eng. Angel Díaz Celis (1984-1990), and as President of a Commission of Reorganization, Dr. Arnaldo Medina Díaz (1970-1972), Mr. Enrique Vásquez Guzman (1972-74), Mr. Pedro Casanova Chirinos (1974-76), and Mr. Demetrio Carranza Lavado (1976-78) . Dr. Sigifredo Orbegozo Venegas was the President of the Transitory Commission of Government appointed to resolve the last conflict of authorities. It has not been easy the road traveled in this first quarter of a century for this University. For various reasons, its process of consolidation was long and complex, to the point that at some point the deepening of internal contradictions threatened its very existence. However, sanity was finally imposed and the high interests of the institution prevailed over any other personal or group interest, it was possible to overcome the difficulties and, therefore, to enter into a stage of harmony, without which it would have been impossible to obtain The achievements that we can display today with legitimate pride. The University is in a frank and sustained process of integral development that is allowing it to catch up with the best universities in the country. For it has not only been possible to fulfill an ambitious program of constructions but also, and fundamentally, a great impulse has been given to the academic improvement, trying to modernize our University to put it in tune with the new demands of a society accelerated by the formidable progress Scientific and technological character that characterizes our time. Today the University has fourteen Faculties and twenty-six Professional Schools; Post-Graduate School, Pre-University Center, Application Center for Primary and Secondary Education, modern laboratories and specialized libraries in permanent updating.
