Xi'An Medical University

Xi'an Medical University (XMU) is a general university under the administration of Shaanxi Provincial Government. It was founded in 1951, named as Shaanxi Health School. In 1959, Shaanxi Provincial Government renamed it as Shaanxi Health Cadres’ Institute. In 1994, the State Education Committee approved it to be Shaanxi Medical Junior College. In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to an undergraduate university, named as Xi'an Medical University. 　　 The University is composed of three campuses: Hanguang Campus, Weiyang Campus and Gaoxin Campus, with a total area of 760,000 square meters. It owns gross fixed assets value of1.16 billion yuan; the instruments and equipment for teaching and scientific research value 134 million yuan. The library comprises about 1.17 million volumes and4.1million electronic books. 　　 It currently haswell-established practice teaching base. It currently has5 directly affiliated hospitals,including Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital, Affiliated Baoji Hospital and Affiliated Hanjiang Hospital, with total number of 6000beds. Affiliated Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital is the biggest public comprehensive 3A hospital run by Shaanxi Provincial government, which also is the Shaanxi Provincial Clinical Medicine Academy, National Clinical Drug Trial Institution, National Training Base of General Practitioner and National Level Medical Emergency Rescue Team Construction Unit. In addition, the University owns19 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and66 practice-teaching bases.
