Environmental issues (climate change and atmospheric pollution), pressures on finite resources, the slow movement towards decentralisation, the conditions are in place for an energy transition and for it to be the regions, in their diversity and their scale, which will be the main actors of this transition. However, this implies engaging people who have simultaneously: real technical competence in the thermal and/or energy sphere; technical competence with regards to energy efficiency in transport or construction; competences in energy-saving, project financing and business plan and business model development; knowledge and analysis of public policies, geo-strategy and the regulatory framework; competences in infrastructures; mastery of appropriate optimisation tools; a capacity to assess and foster the adoption of new energy models. It is because its research laboratories work on these different dimensions dimensions that École des Ponts ParisTech decided to set up the Masters Energy Transition At Local Scale. OBJECTIVES The aim is to provide training in the simulation, modelling, design, assessment and operation of a system (vehicle, building, process, product, service…) in terms of observed energy performance, from the scale of individual materials to the scale of the city, including buildings, infrastructures, transport systems, all in consonance with the geopolitical challenges of energy, and with a particular emphasis on acceptability and the appropriate scale. The aim of the Masters is also to: provide a technical overview of the methods of producing and storing energy and the technologies involved; reinforce the technical competences acquired in the first year of the Masters programme, in particular in terms of energy management and economy in construction and/or transport; provide a framework for understanding the geostrategic issues associated with energy and cover the relevant regulatory aspects; reinforce understanding of the operation of the energy markets; provide instruments for managing infrastructures and optimise strategies for balancing supply/demand at different territorial scales (building, neighbourhood, city…); produce viable energy strategy business models; learn to deploy and combine all the skills necessary for setting and managing an energy strategy; develop the acceptability of energy transition in dialogue with the different stakeholders. OPENINGS Energy project manager for territorial authorities or energy firms. Smart grid engineer and manager. Engineer and energy efficiency manager in construction or transport. KEYWORDS Buildings and transport, optimisation and savings, infrastructures and regions, practices and governance, smart grid, energy transition. This Masters is entirely taught through French.
