About the university
University of Music Karlsruhe is a university institution supported by the federal state of Baden-Württemberg for the artistic and scientific professional training of musicians, composers, musicologists, music journalists and for music/computer technology. The University of Music dates back to the year 1812 in its first beginnings. At that time, a private initiative, supported by the city of Karlsruhe, was founded, a "musical education institute for winds" and two years later a "Singanstalt". These were extended to a "music education center" in 1837, in which state and urban support was taught according to fixed curricula. In 1910, it merged with the Grand Ducal Conservatory, founded in 1883 by Heinrich Ordenstein . The institute thus created was appointed to the "Badische Hochschule für Musik" in 1929. In 1971, the university was taken over by the state of Baden-Württemberg and transferred to the "Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe". It has its headquarters since 1989 in Schloss Gottesaue in Karlsruhe Oststadt . The Karlsruhe University of Music is visited by about 650 students and is supervised by a staff of almost 70 full-time professors or teachers as well as around 185 lecturers (as of 2013). With ComputerStudio, the university has one of the best equipped studios for computer music in Germany. BA-MA MA in Music Journalism for Broadcasting and Multimedia and BA-KulturMediaTechologie operate their own radio program. The program of the LernRadio institute, the young cultural channel, broadcasts 45 hours a week from the high school broadcasting studio, and disseminates weekly on the Rhein-Neckar television , on Baden TV and on the Internet the web TV student magazine ExtraHertz .
