West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov State Medical University

The history of the West Kazakhstan State Medical University named after Marat Ospanov began in 1957, when the order of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR opened the Aktobe State Medical Institute (AkSMI) on September 1 with the specialty "Medicine", designed to provide Western and North-Western Kazakhstan with qualified medical personnel. Currently, the educational, scientific, and medical-diagnostic activities of the University are carried out at 70 departments and courses, employing more than 500 teachers. Teaching staff today is 1 laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 2 Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RK, 1 academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, 5 academicians and corresponding members of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 36 doctors and 175 candidates of medical sciences, 10 masters. The academy staff prepared and protected more than 600 dissertations, including over the past five years about a hundred doctoral and candidate; A number of university staff were awarded high Kazakh state and foreign academic awards. The students of the University head the educational and scientific teams of many universities and research institutes of Kazakhstan, the CIS countries, and also successfully work in Germany, Israel, the USA and other countries of the world. Medical, educational and scientific work of the staff of clinical departments is conducted in close contact with the doctors of practical public health on the basis of medical and preventive institutions of the city and the region. Many leaders of practical health care in Western Kazakhstan are graduates of the WKSMU named after M.Ospanov. Annually, the faculty of the Academy advises thousands of patients, provides them with medical treatment, introduces new methods of diagnosis and treatment, including modern endovideosuloparoscopic surgery.
