Majors: Clinical dosimetry Electroradiology Characteristics of the programme: Full-time first-cycle studies in medical physics last 7 semesters, and finish with the completion of a diploma thesis and obtaining the title of an engineer of medical physics in one of the majors, i.e. dosimetry or electroradiology. After the second and third year of study, students undergo compulsory internships in health care facilities. The curriculum includes a block of mathematical and physical subjects with laboratories and blocks of subjects related to the programme and major in the fields of medicine and biology. Students will learn physical methods used in biology and medicine, both in diagnostic processes and therapy, as well as the basics of materials engineering in medicine and the construction of medical equipment and its application. Classes are conducted by employees of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the Institute of Physics of the University of Silesia, as well as the Medical University of Silesia and the Maria Skłodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Branch in Gliwice. An important task of education in medical physics is to prepare physicists to work in interdisciplinary teams (which are composed of doctors, biologists, chemists and technicians) and to perform the role of experts in the field of quality management systems in the domains related to medical physics, management systems, technical quality of imaging procedures and preparation and operation of non-standard procedures. The graduates are prepared to independently develop skills and continue learning at the second-cycle studies in medical physics and related programmes.
