Bachelor in Social Gerontology – 6 Semesters Total ECTS (European Credit Transfer System): 180 Social Gerontology integrates the study of the physical, mental and social changes of human ageing, the research of the social changes that result from the ageing of populations and the application of the knowledge produced in these fields in the definition/improvement of policies, programmes and services. The study of ageing has been assumed as a multidisciplinary field that integrates contributions from several disciplinary areas. Among the areas considered core are Biology, Sociology and Psychology, and other equally relevant areas such as public policy, the humanities, economics and education. The general objective of this study cycle is to train professionals with scientific knowledge on the phenomenon of ageing and theoretical and practical knowledge on intervention in concrete situations. It aims to train professionals prepared for: - To diagnose specific problems of ageing, identifying the bio-psychosocial factors that are at its origin; - Identify and understand the normal and pathological manifestations of ageing; - Implement action programs to promote active ageing; - Carry out a multidimensional assessment of the elderly and define their life project; - Interact with the various professions involved in the treatment of problems inherent in ageing; - Mobilize policy measures to protect the elderly population and the resources provided by social solidarity and health systems; - Evaluate the potential and limitations of the various types of equipment and services accessible to the elderly population and develop quality improvement programmes with a view to their certification. - Elaborate a diagnosis of the human, material and cultural resources available in the territories and that can be mobilized for the conception and implementation of intervention projects, namely Municipal Gerontological Plans.
