The aim of the BSc studies is to prepare the graduates to use wide biological knowledge and to deepen the knowledge by themselves, and apply in their professional activity. The student acquire the knowledge of the structure, function and development of organisms, molecular biology and fundamentals of biotechnology, as well as environmental biology (idea of sustainable development and ethics in environmental protection). This cognizance is linked with the knowledge gained during the courses of mathematics, physics as well as general and organic chemistry. Apart from the obligatory courses, which compose a main scaffold of the curriculum, versatile facultative courses are offered, enabling individual profiling of the educational path of the students according to their interests and preferences. Apart from various courses on biology, the modules related with biotechnology and environmental protection are also offered. After the 2nd year of the study the students are referred to the chosen departments/institutes where they prepare their BSc thesis. Professional prospects: Graduates can be employed in scientific institutions and production plants, analytical, control and diagnostic laboratories, museum natural departments, health care institutions, pharmaceutical and food industry, in plant growing and animal husbandry, in the environmental protection and economy institutions and agencies, in the custom offices (due to the convention about international market of wild animals and plants), in the offices of environmental protection of local governments. They are also prepared to continue their education on the Master’s degree programme in Biology and related fields of study.
